Planning guide
At a glance
- Best time: November to February, the cool dry season. March to May is very hot
- How long: a 3-day pass is ideal; 2 to 4 days in Siem Reap
- Fitness: easy to moderate. Steep temple stairs and plenty of heat
Angkor passes (2026)
- 1 day: US$37
- 3 days: US$62
- 7 days: US$72
Buy at the official ticket office in Siem Reap or online at the Angkor Enterprise website. If you buy after 4:30 p.m., you can enter for sunset and the ticket counts for the next day. Multi-day passes carry your photo, so keep it with you.
A 3-day plan
- Day 1: sunrise at Angkor Wat, then Angkor Thom (Bayon, the Terrace of the Elephants) and Ta Prohm, the "tree temple".
- Day 2: the outer temples of the Grand Circuit, including Preah Khan and Neak Pean.
- Day 3: Banteay Srei's pink carvings and the Kbal Spean riverbed, or the Kulen Mountain waterfalls.
Getting there and around
Siem Reap's new Angkor International Airport (SAI) opened in 2023, about an hour from town. Hire a tuk-tuk driver for the day, or a car with air conditioning in the hot season. Cycling the inner temples is a fun option in the cool months.
Rough costs per person (excluding flights and passes)
- $ to $$: guesthouses and street food: about US$30 to $60 a day
- $$$: boutique hotels, a tuk-tuk and a guide: about US$100 to $180 a day
- $$$$ to $$$$$: luxury resorts: US$300+ a day
Good to know
- Cover your shoulders and knees to enter many temples, including the upper level of Angkor Wat.
- Many visitors can apply for a Cambodian e-Visa online. Use only the official government site.
- US dollars are widely used alongside the riel.
